Grandma T's Fabric Cupboard - {Redone!}

Ten gazillion years ago my mom began (and almost finished) stripping all the peeling layers of (what was most likely lead-based) paint *eek!* off of this cupboard that my great grandmother used for fabric storage.  And... it sat... and sat... and sat some more in her attic or garage or basement or whatever until she finally forfeited and just asked me to finish the job.  

I'm glad she did.  For one, she will now have some very valuable counter space back in her kitchen where her microwave was (this will serve as her microwave's new home from now on).  But, more importantly, I was very, uh, what's the right word here? ... honored to work on a piece that belonged to my beloved great Grandma T.  I could kinda feel her near when I sanded it, repaired the peeling layers of veneer and painted it. I miss her.

With the help of my new favorite (and extremely durable) top coat...

Vonda's Bedroom Set

A client of mine bought this dresser and matching convertible crib/bed for their oldest daughter 7-8 years ago after searching high and low for a white distressed, beautiful, shabby set.  They had zero luck.  They felt like they settled for this set, though very nice and super cute, they really did want it white.  So they got in touch with me and hired me to paint it all for them.  In my opinion, it took some guts for them to get them painted!  They were in near brand new, perfect condition.  I have always fixed up and painted the kind of stuff with 10 layers of old paint, broken hinges or doors or legs, or peeling off stain.   I have to admit, I felt a little bad sanding these babies down!  BUT,  I love them so much better white! (And so does she!)  

So now I'm jealous because the crib and dresser in my own little girl's room has the exact same stain that Vonda's did.  Guess what I'm itching to do now...  I know.  I have issues.  I swear, I look around at 60% of the stuff in my own home and want to scuff it all up and paint it.  One project at a time, right?

I have told people in the past, "If you don't love it, paint it."  This is exactly what my client did.  And she didn't even hesitate (at least not in front of me!)  I think she made the right decision.  Don't you?

{The Holly Dresser}

A good friend of mine needed a dresser for her kids' room and, you know me, I had like 4 sitting in my garage. (haha) No, Really.

So, she picked one out (that was green and gold and quite horrendous-looking) and here is the finished product!

Minwax's Polycrylic, in satin, as a top coat for both the top and over the paint

{The Duck Egg Table}

Ahhh, she's quite a beauty, huh?  I love that I found this table for $8.99 at Goodwill yesterday and had it painted with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint, in Duck Egg Blue, and waxed and in its new spot in less than 24 hours.  One of the perks of this fabulous paint.  

Before the wax:

I mixed Annie Sloan clear wax with her dark wax in about a 4:1 ratio to tone down the duck egg blue a bit.

{Nesting Side Tables}

I love white furniture.  It goes with everything and can look classy, shabby, casual or fancy. Everything matches it.  Blacks, browns, warm tones, cool ones.  You name it.

These tables were painted in Annie Sloan's Old White Chalk Paint, distressed with a sanding block and topped with polycrylic by minwax.  Traditionally, chalk paint is finished with wax, but I wanted a harder finish for these tables since they get a lot of use from my little monsters.  

Before: 

Black.  Not bad, but I was tired of it and am changing the color scheme in my living room to grays, whites and a duck egg blue.

{The Tiffany Buffet} - Sold

This beautiful buffet would be a beautiful piece in any dining room, entry way or living space. It has ample storage, new dark bronze hardware, a gorgeous dark walnut stained top, dovetail joints and is distressed with a lovely semi-glossy wax finish.
